In 2012, when we learned that our daughter Cal had leukodystrophy, the doctors told us it was too late to save her.  Three months later, Cal uttered her last word: "Daddy."  A year later, we learned about a remarkable new gene therapy that was making it possible for children with Cal's disease to walk, talk, and attend school. The moment our family realized that Cal's disease did not have to be fatal, we were determined to raise the money and awareness needed so other families would not have to stand by and watch children lose everything and then die.
